Akro
Akro is an unconventional niche fragrance house founded in 2018 by the legendary master perfumer Olivier Cresp (the nose behind icons like Mugler Angel and D&G Light Blue) and his daughter, Anaïs Cresp.
The brand's identity is centered on the concept of addictions and vices. The name "Akro" is a play on the French word accro, meaning "addict," and each scent in the collection is designed to capture the essence of a specific daily pleasure or "hit."
The Concept: Bottled Vices
The inspiration for Akro began in London’s Ladbroke Grove, where Anaïs was inspired by the sensory "haze" of the city—coffee shops, pubs, and street life. Rather than focusing on traditional floral or citrus themes, Akro creates "figurative" scents that are photorealistic yet wearable.
Notable Fragrances
Each perfume acts as an olfactory translation of a particular craving:
-
Awake: The bitter, energizing rush of a morning espresso.
-
Bake: A buttery, zesty gourmand inspired by lemon cupcakes and pastries.
-
Dark: A moody, earthy take on dark chocolate and hazelnut.
-
Smoke: The atmospheric scent of a first drag or a late-night party (tobacco and cade).
-
Haze: A green, herbal nod to cannabis and absinthe.
-
Malt: A boozy, salty blend evoking whiskey on the rocks.
-
Ink: A cold, metallic, and artistic scent inspired by tattoos.
The Aesthetic
Akro bridges the gap between Parisian sophistication and London grit. While the concepts are provocative, the craftsmanship is high-end; Olivier Cresp uses premium ingredients from the Firmenich palette to ensure that even "dirty" notes like smoke or leather feel luxurious and refined on the skin.
